Last night was the night. The final vote. Would Flagstaff say proudly, CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE AND MONEY IS NOT FREE SPEECH?  

Or, would they vote us down, and say yes to clear and apparent corruption? 

Six months of preparation and here it was. Deep breath. 

And then, there it was.

WE DID IT!!!! 

PASSED 4-1: RESOLUTION TO FREE DEMOCRACY FROM CORPORATE CONTROL.

They called us up one by one to give our speeches and Flagstaff For Democracy, all our supporters, the City Council, and residents of Flagstaff, Arizona, stood witness to one of the most critical and monumental decisions that has ever faced this Council. The Vice Mayor said so herself… :)

The happiness filled the room like an up roaring of passion. To win. To not only win but to see something you all care about so deeply – the freedom and equity of all peoples in this nation to be fairly represented - become a real issue up for honest discussion. To preserve our voice amongst the chaos of this corrupted world. To stand firmly as a Flagstaff citizen and be proud to know our city says:

CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE. MONEY IS NOT FREE SPEECH. 

It was honestly, one of the happiest moments I have ever experienced, and the Best way to participate in May Day.

We had 17 people come to the City Council Tuesday night to support the effort to get the council to approve a resolution to overturn the Citizens United decision. It looks like we may have been successful. The council will take this matter up as an official order of business in the near future. Thanks to everyone for coming!

As far as who we are.. 

We are a group of concerned and dedicated Flagstaff citizens. We are democracy activists working to overturn the Citizens United V. Federal Election Commission Supreme Court decision of 2010, 

We are currently working on a petition to urge the Flagstaff City Council to pass a resolution in which would support a 28th amendment to overturn the Citizens United V. Federal Election Commission Supreme Court decision of 2010, and resolve that corporations are private artificial entities and are not fully endowed and privileged by the Constitution of the United States.
